Traditional English Cheese Press with Handle and Drainage Spout - A must-have for the Treen Collector

A unique item of history - this traditional, hand made, English cheese press.

Carved from a single piece of dark wood - possibly rosewood - this press combines both handle and a bowl and channel to drain whey. The cheese in the bowl would have been weighted with a heavy object - either circular carved wood, but possibly a flattened stone.

The presence of the handle suggests the wood carver wanted the design of the item to support the user as they carefully drained the cheese. A historical reminder of form and function.

As cheese-making practices have remained traditional in the UK, this item may date from the 18th or 19th century.

As with all treen, the beauty of the piece shows through constant handling and use. Everyday practical touch leaves marks, scars, and constant wear: in retaining the memory of the years, carved wood develops a uniquely deep and rich patina, creating a tactile piece for your continuing use today.

We would love to imagine this collectable treen still in use - perhaps as your cheeseboard centre piece.
